This Shop stocks souvenious and different handicrafts depicting southwestern Uganda's skills and craftsmanship in household items, musical instruments, ornaments, decorative and fshion objects, cards and books.
The main attraction at the Centre is the Museum of South Western Uganda with acient and modern history of the region.
The modern restaurant serves both traditional and international dishes in a clean environment. This provides state-of-the-art service and is a must stop and enjoy centre for all travellers, tourists and the community.
The centre provides an idealrange artists and performers of music and recitations (ebyevugo) of both traditional and modern presenters.
Igongo Cultural Centre was officially opened on the 23rd December 2011. The opening was presided over by H.E the president of Uganda. The function was blessed by other government officials especially in the tourism and hospitality sector. They included, among others Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu, Minister of Tourism Wildlife and Heritage, Executive director of Uganda Wildlife Authority and the First Lady and minister for Karamoja, Mrs. Janet Museveni.
Igongo Cultural Centre, with support from USAID through Sustainable Tourism in the Albertine Rift has provided a Topographic-Relief map showing major protected attractions in the region. All relief features in the western arm of the rift valley; from Murchion falls to Bwindi. This is mounted in Igongo museum as an information point for travelers and students about the Uganda's major tourist destination.
Uganda Wildlife Authority entered a partnership with Igongo Cultural Centre. The partnership was spelt out in the Memorandum of Understanding in which UWA sponsored the research and mounting an information panel on the relationship between wildlife and people's clans of southwestern Uganda. Wildlife relate to the people of Kigezi and Ankole either as their totems (friendly animals) or taboos.
On the space provided as clan(s) networking bureau, individual clans have sponsored their clan plaques with brief information about the clans and their lineages.
